Lata Mangeshkar cremated with state honors in Mumbai

The country’s most famous singer Swara Kokila was buried with state honors at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday. His mortal remains were covered with the tricolor and the armed men gave their last salute. Several celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and PM Narendra Modi attended the funeral. Lata’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar illuminated her eyes with moist eyes.

Lata Mangeshkar (92) passed away on Sunday. Lata Mangeshkar was honored upon her death by the Prime Minister, President of India and Indian and foreign nationals. Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials said the park was closed for cremation. People started reaching the park around one o’clock in the afternoon for the last glimpse of the singer.

PM Modi expressed grief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief through Twitter. We will be forever grateful to this caring creeper. It is impossible to fill this void. His melodious voice and uncanny ability to woo people will be remembered as an Indian cultural icon for generations to come.

 

What is the official state of mourning?

In case of death or resignation of Bharat Ratna recipient is called state mourning. Earlier it was announced by the President only on the recommendation of the Central Government. Now the state governments have also announced this. The National Flag Code states that the national flag should be flown at half-mast during mourning. This applies to both the Legislative Assembly and the Secretariat, as well as other important buildings and government offices. Indian embassies abroad hoist the national flag at half-mast. There is no formal or official event during national mourning.
